Six suspects are being held in various police cells in Kisii and Homabay after they were found in possession with a consignment of drugs of addiction including cannabis sativa and contraband cigarettes yesterday.
The exercise, which was conducted by the national Police Service officers, National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug abuse (NACADA) and other stakeholders was carried in Kisii town and parts of Kasipul constituency leading to the arrests of the two suspects being held in Oyugis and 4 in Kisii police stations respectively.
Addressing the press separately in the two counties, Kisii County Police Commander, Ronald Kirui, and Rachuonyo South Criminal Investigations Officer, Daniel Muhuhi, said the suspects would be presented in court after the cannabis sativa was subjected to more investigations to ascertain its contents and value.
Kirui noted that during the operation at the main suspect Agnes Gesare’s premises in Nyankongo, Kisii town, they found 134 brooms of bhang, and two bags of 90 kilogrammes of the unprocessed drug.
He said they had also confiscated cannabis packaging materials and Sh 13,450, money believed to be proceeds from sale of the outlawed drug.
Kirui applauded members of the public for volunteering information which, he said, led to arrest of the main suspect and the three others who were being held pending further investigations.
Speaking from Oyugis police station in Rachuonyo South, Homabay County, area Criminal Investigations Officer, Daniel Muhuhi, said two suspects were apprehended while contraband goods including 14 packets of uncustomed Oris cigarettes and 400 packets of Supermatch cigarettes were confiscated.
Muhuhi said the drugs will be taken to the government chemist for analysis before the suspects are arraigned in court.
